Flemish Minister of Heritage, Geert Bourgeois, has announced that C-Mine, the site of the former coalmine in Genk, is the winner of the Flemish Monuments Award 2013. MAD-Faculty (Media, Arts & Design Faculty) is part of this educational and cultural cluster, as the “teaching and learning factory”.

Other laureates were:
– St. Dionysius Church in Sint-Denijs-Westrem, Ghent
– CC Great Post in Ostend
– Villa Elsa on the seafront in Wenduine, De Haan.

The jury awarded C-Mine as “a very successful example of rehabilitation and care of the heritage. Moreover, the site has a strong leverage and great appearance for the preservation of heritage and the reuse of similar sites.”
